Top Ten Most Recent Additions To My Book Collection

I didn't manage to do many Top Ten Tuesday's in 2021 but I am going to try to do a bit better this year. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and this week's theme is my most recent additions to my book collection. I managed to not buy too many books in 2021 but did pick up a few physical books, ebooks and audiobooks in the sales over Christmas, which I thought I would share with you this week.

1. Postscript by Cecelia Ahern - One of my favourite books of 2020 so I needed to own a physical copy. I really loved this sequel to PS I Love You.

2. Bridgertons 1-4 Boxset by Julia Quinn - I read the first five books in this series in 2021 and just love these covers so had to get physical copies when the box set was on sale.

3. Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis - I know nothing about this but saw it in someones favourite books of the year on instagram so picked it up on ebook when I saw it on sale.

4. Just Haven't Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens - I wasn't planning to pick this one up after not loving this authors first book but having seen rave reviews for this one I decided to give it a go.

5. The Holiday by TM Logan - I want to get back to reading some thrillers this year and this seems to be a pretty popular one. Again, I have no idea what it is about which I tend to prefer for thrillers.

6. She Said by Jodi Kantor & Megan Twohey - This is a non-fiction book from the reporters who broke the news of Harvey Weinstein's sexual harassment and sounds really interesting.

7. Him by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy - This is a super popular MM sports romance that I had to pick up when I saw on sale after seeing such amazing things about it.

8. Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid - I have been wanting to read this one for ages to finally picked it up on audio in the sale. This is another one I have heard so many great things about.

9. The Deal by Elle Kennedy - This is another sports romance that is super popular in the romance community. I already own this in ebook but decided to pick up the audio as well.

10. The Good Samaritan by John Marrs - I have been wanting to read more John Marrs since reading The One back in 2020 but haven't gotten around to it yet. This one sounds just as twisted and I'm excited to get to it.

There are ten of my most recent book purchases, all of which I am super excited to get to. Hopefully I will have at least read a few of them by this time next year.

Have you read any of these books? Did you love them?

Hauling More eBooks

I haven't hauled any eBooks since November and it's no secret that I tend to acquire a fair amount of them. I did get a Kindle Unlimited subscription so I have cut back a bit on buying or downloading free ebooks outwith KU, but I have still picked up some. I'm not including any KU books in this haul, mainly because I tend to just download them as I want to read them. I did still get my hands on almost 30 books that were either free or on sale in the last few months.

1. Paper Princess by Erin Watt - A girl moves in to a posh mansion with a bunch of rich brothers after her mother dies. I've heard a lot of mixed things.

23. Shutout by Jami Davenport - A second chance sports romance with a hockey player hero.

24. Chicago Blaze Books 1-2 by Brenda Rothert - A bind-up of the first two books in a sports romance series following a hockey team.

25. Baby Mine by Kennedy Fox - A roommate romance between the hero, who's best friend recently died in an accident, and the best friend's girlfriend.

27. Co-Ed by Rachel Van Dyken - A NA reverse harem romance.

28. Exes & Goals by Heather C Myers - The first book in a sports romance series following a hockey team.

Do you recommend any of these? What should I read first?

Yet Another eBook Haul

I've been at it again with the ebook buying! I have bought hardly any physical books in 2020, but have been making up for it in ebooks. I didn't get quite as carried away this time around, only 19 books in the last two months. These were all either free or on sale through ibooks and Kindle.

1. A Favour For A Favour by Helena Hunting - The second book in a sports romance series following a hockey team. I already have the first book in the series on my Kindle so I'm ready for a series binge.

2. A Secret For A Secret by Helena Hunting - The third book in the same series.

3. It Was Always You by Brenna Aubrey - A Christmas brother's best friend romance novella.

4. Christmas On Main Street by Leanna Morgan - A Christmas romance, I think featuring some kind of secret Santa.

5. Rescuing You by Sarah Taylor - A steamy romance novella between a firefighter and a teacher.

6. Burn For Me by J.H. Croix - A second chance romance, also involving a firefighter.

7. Burn So Bad by J.H. Croix - In the same series, this is a hate to love romance with a firefighter.

8. Merry Me by Amanda Siegrist - Another holiday romance, with what sounds like a bit of a grumpy hero.

9. Christmas Trio by Shanid Boyes - A MMF steamy Christmas novella.

10. Dirty by Paula Cox - A dark, romantic suspense novella.

11. The Wreckage Of Us by Brittainy C Cherry - A NA romance between a girl with a rough home life and a musician, by an author I have heard so many great things about.

12. The Christmas Invitation by Trisha Ashley - A Christmas novel about a woman who spends Christmas in a small town and bumps into a man from her past.

13. The Turn Of The Key by Ruth Ware - Finally going to try out some Ruth Ware! This is a thriller involving a woman who gets a job as a nanny in a Highland home and then ends up in prison.

14. The Woman In Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware - Another Ruth Ware thriller, this time set on a cruise ship where a woman witnesses someone being thrown overboard.

15. Can You Hear Me? by Jake Jones - A little bit of non-fiction. This is a memoir from a paramedic in the UK.

16. One New York Christmas by Mandy Baggot - Another Christmas story! This one follows two best friends who go to New York for Christmas.

17. All About Us by Tom Ellen - And another Christmas novel, following a man who goes back in time to the moment he chose his current relationship over 'the one that got away' and must decide if he would do things differently.

18. This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens - A New Year's romance following two complete opposites who share a moment on NYE and find themselves bumping into each other throughout the year.

19. Punk 57 by Penelope Douglas - A NA romance I knew nothing about but everyone seems to love it. It looks to be following two childhood pen-pals who meet in real life.

Another 19 books that I don't have a clue when I'll ever get to! Hopefully I can read a few of the holiday books in the coming months, but we'll see.

Which of these should I make a priority?

Which of these books should I try to get to first?

A Mostly Romance eBook Haul

Over the past month or so, all I have wanted to do is buy books. I just have this constant urge to order all of the books. However, I'm trying to save money right now so I can't do that. Instead, I have found that ebook shopping can calm those urges enough for me to not hit that 'Place Order' button. I have been searching both the Kindle store and iBooks on a pretty much daily basis in search of some free or super cheap ebooks, and I have found myself quite a few. I think this haul consists of around 30 books, which is madness, almost all of which are romance books and quite a few are short novellas.

Kate's Crew by Jayne Rylon - A reverse harem novella involving construction workers.

Forceful by M. Malone & Nana Malone - A enemies-to-lovers, romantic suspense novella (I think series prequel).

Cheeky Royal by Nana Malone - A royalty romance involving a Prince who doesn't want to be Royal and the girl in charge of looking after him.

London Royal by Nana Malone - Another royalty romance, set in London, involving a Prince and a girl trying to escape her past.

Protecting The Heiress by Nana Malone - Yet another royalty romance, this time involving a manny.

Naughty Boss by Whitney G. - An office romance novella involving an angry email about her boss sent directly to her boss.

King Of Lies by Whitney G. - A dark romance novella about a woman who is kidnapped by her husband.

Save the Date by Monica Murphy - A woman catches the fiancee of her first kiss cheating on him and they re-connect after she tells him.

Crazy For A Geek Girl by Nicolette Dane - A f/f romance between a businesswoman and the company's IT consultant.

Theirs For The Night by Katee Robert - A MMF smutty novella involving a Prince and his bodyguard.

The Deal by Elle Kennedy - A NA sports romance, the first in a pretty popular series.

The Chase by Elle Kennedy - Another NA sports romance that is the first in a series.

Rush by Kandi Steiner - Another first in a popular NA series, this time following Greek life.

Beach Read by Emily Henry - This seems to be THE romance release of 2020. Everyone has read it, everyone has loved it.

Believe In Me by Amy Sparling - A YA sports romance involving motocross racing.

Almost Priest by Lydia Michaels - A romance involving a soon-to-be priest and the girl his brother invited on vacation.

Lights Up by Brianna Stark - A romance novella following a celebrity chef and a dancer.

Taken by Esme Devlin - A dark romance novella about a girl who meets a bad guy in a nightclub.

All The Missing Girls by Megan Miranda - A thriller about the disappearance of two women, but told backwards.

Good Girl by Piper Lawson - A NA romance between a rockstar and a nerd.

Praying For Rain by BB Easton - A NA dystopian/apocalyptic novel that I have heard so many amazing things about.

The Secret Note by Lauren Rowe - A romance novella involving the brother's best friend and a camping trip.

Together With Love by various authors - A romance anthology featuring novellas all involving lockdown situations.

One Wild Night by Magan Vernon - The first novella in a series involving a woman who drunkenly marries a stripper in Vegas.

Sweet Beginnings by Magan Vernon - The first novella in a series about an ex-stripper who moves to Chicago, goes to culinary school and ends up in witness protection after spending the night with a girl.

NSFW by Piper Lawson - An office romance between an executive assistant and her boss.

Her Christmas Bonus by Rain Danvers - Another boss/employee romance novella, this time set at Christmas (yes, I realise it's June).

About That Night by Ashlyn Mathews - A friends-to-lovers romance novella.

Falling by Wendy Smith - A second chance romance novella involving a couple who were married and parents a teenagers. This doesn't have great reviews but I'm intrigued.

Captive by Leigh Talbert Moore - A YA novella about a girl who gets kidnapped while walking to work. Possibly some kind of paranormal elements to this one.

Perfect Storm by Cheryl Douglas - A romance novella about a bad boy with a past and the girl who wants to leave him.

That was a lot of books and I don't think I described even one of them well. I'm definitely well stocked on ebooks for now, although no doubt I'll be finding more. Hopefully I can get to some of these shortly.

Have you read any of these books? Is there one I should bump to the top of my priority list?

Haul | March 2019

I was doing so well with buying less books in 2019. I managed to not buy a single book in the month of February, which is a rare thing for me, and had yet to add a single physical book to my collection in 2019. However, I caved in March and added some shiny new books to my shelves. I bought 5 new physical books and one ebook, so I didn't go too crazy.

Goodbye Perfect by Sara Barnard - I have read, and loved, every other Sara Barnard book so it was time I picked up this one. This is about a girl whose best friend runs away with a random guy just days before the start of their exams and she has to try and deal with all of that. If her other books are anything to go by, I expect to love this.

Genuine Fraud by E Lockhart - I had no intention of picking this book up but it was on offer and that just made it too tempting to refuse. I don't have a clue what this book is about but the synopsis is so intriguing. It's just as vague as the synopsis of We Were Liars, the only other book I have read from E Lockhart, and that turned out to be completely different that I expected, so we'll see how this one goes.

The Potion Diaries books 1-3 by Amy Alward - The first book in this series was the first book I read this year and I really enjoyed it. I knew straight away that I wanted to continue on in the series, so when I saw the collection available on The Book People for a super reasonable price, I picked it up. It does mean I now have two copies of the first book but I will be giving one away to a friend. I can't wait to see how this series progresses.

Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett - This is another one I knew nothing about but saw it on the Kindle store for 99p and bought it because I had heard of it. This is why I have too many books! All I know about this is it follows two characters who have issues with each other and are stuck in the woods together. It definitely sounds like something I could really enjoy.

That is everything I bought in the month of March. I'm really happy to have these books but I am definitely hoping I can get back to being good for at least the next month, my physical TBR is not shrinking nearly as much as I would like.

Haul | January 2019

I'm trying to do better at keeping track of the books I buy in 2019, so what better way to do that than to go back to posting monthly book hauls. I'm hoping I can stick to my not buying many books goals and these won't feature too many books, but that hasn't really happened in the past. I only bought 5 books in January and all were on audiobook. I decided to cancel my audible account, at least for a little while, and had 5 credits remaining. As you lose any credits when you cancel your account, I had to treat myself to some new books since I wasn't letting them go to waste.

As Long As You Love Me by Ann Aguirre - This is the second book in the 2B trilogy, the first book being I Want It That Way, which I read back in 2016. The sequel follows a side character from the first book, but I remember so little about it that I can't remember her at all. It is a NA romance about a girl who moves back to her home town and, I believe, gets pretty close to her best friend's older brother.

Becoming by Michelle Obama - This is Michelle Obama's memoir and I have been dying to read it since it was published last year. I have heard so many amazing things about it, and it has a CRAZY high average rating on Goodreads. She narrates the audiobook herself, which I always find adds so much to the book.

Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher - I read this one in January and really enjoyed listening to the audiobook and reading the physical book together. This is Giovanna's debut novel and is about a woman from a small English town who meets a famous actor and her life completely changes.

Seven Ways We Lie by Riley Redgate - This is another one I read in January so I'm not doing too badly with reading books soon after buying them. This follows seven high school students as a scandal takes place in their school. Each of the seven students represents each of the seven deadly sins, which is a really interesting concept.

Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham - Another memoir, apparently I'm in the mood for them just now. This is the memoir of Lauren Graham, probably best known from Gilmore Girls. This is also narrated by Lauren herself, which I think will be great because she is hilarious.

That is everything I bought in January. I even managed to not add to my physical TBR this month, which is always the goal.

Have you read any of these books? What should I pick up soon?

Sophie :)

Haul | YALC 2018

Between January and June 2018, I acquired a total of 29 books. Between July 27th and July 29th 2018, I acquired a total of 23 books! I knew I would get a lot of books during YALC, so much so that I took a small extra suitcase with me to bring them all home in, but I didn't quite expect to get almost as many books as I had acquired in the first 6 months of the year. I suppose I better get on with hauling them or we'll be here all day.

The Crash by Lisa Drakeford - A car crashes into a house and everyone involved has to deal with the aftermath. One of the lovely people on the Chicken House stand recommended this to me and I was so intrigued.

The Baby by Lisa Drakeford - A girl, who didn't know she was pregnant, gives birth at her friends birthday party. Again, this was recommended to me by the same lovely person on the Chicken House stand and it seemed like my kind of book.

Freshers by Tom Ellen & Lucy Ivison - Following a boy and girl as they start university. I've been wanting to read more uni books recently, specifically set in UK university, and I've heard this is hilarious.

Penguin 2018/2019 Yearbook - This is Penguin's book of extracts from their 2018/2019 releases. I was so excited to get my hands on this as it includes extracts from some of my most anticipated upcoming releases.

The Truth About Lies by Tracy Darnton - A girl with an incredible memory remembers everything, including who killed her roommate. I heard Tracy Darnton talk about this book on a panel and was completely sold, so I had to go and buy a copy and get it signed.

Close Your Eyes by Nicci Cloke - This is the story of a school shooting. After reading Toxic by Nicci Cloke, I knew I wanted to read more from her. This sounds like my kind of books so I made sure to pick it up.

Clean by Juno Dawson - It's basically described as Gossip Girl goes to rehab. I have been wanting to read something from Juno Dawson for a while now and this just sounds amazing.

Tell Me No Lies by AV Geiger - This is the sequel to Follow Me Back, a thriller about fan obsession and trolling, which I just recently picked up on ibooks. This was available for free with another purchase so I decided grab it and binge the series.

I Stop Somewhere by TE Carter - A hard-hitting contemporary about sexual assault. I have heard so many amazing things about this book.

Nowhere Else But Here by Rachel Cotton - I don't know anything about this book but Ink Road publish some of my favourite books so I really wanted to support them and this was one of the only books on the stand I didn't already own. Also, this was written by a seventeen year old!!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stane: Scots Edition by JK Rowling and Matthew Fitt - Harry Potter translated into Scots, I just had to. Even as a Scot myself, I think I'll struggle with this one.

My Heart Goes Bang by Keris Stainton - This is another uni story and one I have had my eye on for a while. I decided to pick it up at YALC so that I could go and get it signed, which was a great idea as Keris Stainton turned out to be one of my favourite people that I met the whole weekend!

One Small Thing by Erin Watt - A forbidden romance between and girl and the boy involved in the death of her sister. This is another one I have been desperate to get my hands on since before it was even published.

Sweetfreak by Sophie McKenzie - Another book about trolling and online hate. Sophie McKenzie wrote one of my favourite books when I was younger, Girl, Missing, so I'm interested to see how I feel about her writing now.

The Last Summer Of The Garrett Girls by Jessica Spotswood - I'll be honest, I picked this up because of the cover and the fact it has the word 'summer' in the title. All I know is it takes place during the summer.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson - A girl interested in true crime tries to solve a cold case involving her new school. I heard Emma from emmmabooks talk about this book on her channel and she raved about it so much I have to read it.

All These Beautiful Strangers by Elizabeth Klehfoth - I heard Elizabeth Klehfoth talk about this book during her panel and had to pick it up. She described it as for anyone who loved thrillers and boarding school, which is definitely me.

My (Secret) Youtube Life by Charlotte Seager - The My Kinda Book stand were selling mystery books, where the books are wrapped so you don't know which book you're getting, so of course I had to get involved. This was the book I got, which I know nothing at all about.

Izzy & Tristan by Shannon Dunlap - A modern-day retelling of Tristan and Iseult. This is one of the few ARCs I managed to pick up and it is one that I am very excited about.

Giant Days by Non Pratt - A novel based on the graphic-novel series, and one of my most anticipated releases of the year. Early copies were available at YALC and you even got a free reusable coffee cup.

Easy Prey by Catherine Lo - Another ARC and another book with online aspects. A teacher's inappropriate pictures get leaked and there are only three student's who could have done it. This is one I am incredibly excited for.

If You're Lucky by Yvonne Prinz - This is another mystery/thriller, I believe, and one I don't know much about. I picked this up for free with another purchase but I'm interested to give it a go.

This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp - Another book about a school shooting. I have been desperate to read this since it was first published but haven't been able to find it anywhere in the UK. As soon as I saw it on a stand, I grabbed it and even let out a little squeal of excitement.

Those are the 23 books I picked up at YALC. I think it might take me a little while to get through all of these but I will be well stocked up for a while. If you were at YALC, what did you pick up that you're most excited about? Which of these books would you recommend I pick up first?

Haul | June 2018

I did a new thing in the month of June. For the first time ever, I am sharing a book haul of all books I have read! I don't think I have ever done a monthly haul that has not included an unread book, but I have obviously just been very good at not adding to my physical TBR recently. Every book I bought in the month of June was either a book I had already read but wanted my own copy of, or one I read as soon as I got my hands on it.

Save The Date by Morgan Matson - As I mentioned in my June Wrap Up, this was one of my most anticipated releases on 2018. I pre-ordered this and as soon as it arrived I picked it up and started reading. That is something that almost never happens!

Open Road Summer by Emery Lord - When picking up Just Don't Mention It, there was a 'buy one get one half price' sale going on so I decided, rather than adding to my overwhelming physical TBR, to pick up something I had already read but didn't own. I listened to the audiobook of this a few years ago and loved it so decided to add it to my, still unread, collection of all of Emery Lord's other books.

DIMILY Trilogy by Estelle Maskame - I read the entire DIMILY trilogy on ebook, but after falling in love with it I know I needed the books on my shelves. They just look so beautiful alongside Just Don't Mention It and I know I'll be picking them up to reread in the future.

Just Don't Mention It by Estelle Maskame - This was published very shortly after I finished the DIMILY trilogy so, despite having an eARC from Netgalley, I rushed out to pick up my own copy as soon as I could just to have it in my hands and display alongside the trilogy.

I'm so happy with all of the books I purchased in June, and even happier that they don't hinder my goal of reducing my number of unread owned books by the end of the year.

What books did you pick up in June?

Sophie :)

Haul | May 2018

I bought some books in May. After a good start to the year, only buying a few books in the first few months, I haven't been quite as well behaved more recently. I picked up six books in May, three physical and three ebooks. Unfortunately for my bank account, this has not stopped my book buying urges so I am trying my absolute hardest to resist temptation at the moment. But more about the books I did get my hands on.

Royals by Rachel Hawkins - This is a new release about a girl whose sister becomes engaged to a Prince and she has to deal with the unwanted attention this brings for her. It sounded like so much fun that I couldn't resist picking it up, especially among all the excitement of the recent royal wedding.

Far From The Tree by Robin Benway - I have heard so many people rave about this book since its publication last year that when I saw it on offer I had to pick it up. This is about three adopted siblings who find each other after one of them attempts to find her birth mother. I have heard it is extremely emotional so I am preparing to bawl my eyes out.

Your Turn To Die by Sue Wallman - Her first book was one that I picked up completely on a whim and was so pleasantly surprised by, as I had heard no-one talking about it. When I saw her most recent release, also on offer, I decided to see if I enjoy her subsequent releases as much as her debut. I know little about this other than it is a YA mystery/thriller set over New Year.

Big Bones by Laura Dockrill - I mentioned this book in my YALC TBR as Laura is one of the many authors announced for YALC this year, which is why I picked this book up. All I know about it is that it follows a girl who is encouraged to lose weight, despite being happy with her size. I believe it's pretty hilarious, I can't wait to get around to it.

Six Stories by Matt Wesolowski - This is a really unique book that is written in the form of six interviews for a podcast. I believe these interviews revolve around a death and finding out the truth about what happened. It sounds very interesting and I have heard some great things about it.

Last Chance (Keeping The Moon) by Sarah Dessen - I have been wanting to read more Sarah Dessen for a couple of years now and decided that summer was the perfect time to pick up another of her books. This one follows a girl who is spending the summer with her aunt in a small beach town (my favourite setting). I have only read one other book by her, which I just thought was okay, so I'm interested to see why everyone loves her books so much.

Those were my six book purchases of May. I'm really excited about all of these books and can't wait to read them as soon as I get the chance to. Which one would you recommend I pick up first?

Wrap Up & Haul | April 2018

April was such a busy month and it has completely flown in! I can't believe it's nearly summer already! I had a lot going on in April but still managed to read 6 books, which seems to be my number this year since I've read 6 books 3 out of 4 months so far. I'm actually really happy that I'm managing to be quite consistent with the number of books I'm reading each month, hopefully that will continue throughout the rest of the year. Yet again, I read mostly ebooks in April meaning my physical TBR is continuing to grow. However, the one physical book I did read is one I have been wanting to get to for years, so that's pretty exciting. I also bought a few books in April after being good for a couple of months.

Read

Sam & Ilsa's Last Hurrah by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan -
This was an odd book! I read Dash & Lily's Book Of Dares by these authors in December of last year and enjoyed it so decided to give this, their newest release, a go. It takes place over one night in which twins Sam & Ilsa throw one last dinner party before graduation. It was very pretentious and not a whole lot happened so I got a bit bored. It was a very quick read but I didn't really enjoy it.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer -
I finally read it! I have had Cinder on almost every TBR list I have ever posted on this blog and always put it off, until April. I decided I had put it off long enough and it was time to give it a go. I went into it knowing nothing more than it is a Cinderella retelling with a cyborg main character but it ended up being a lot more than that. I really enjoyed it and found the world and story very interesting, particularly is it didn't completely follow the Cinderella storyline, it had an original story at the forefront. I found it to be very predictable and didn't love it as much as I expected to but I'm still really glad I eventually read it.

I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman -
Gayle Forman is an author whose books I either really, really love or think their just average. For that reason, I didn't know what to expect from this book, particularly as the synopsis didn't completely intrigue me. It follows three people over the course of one day after their lives become randomly intertwined. I didn't expect to completely love it and I definitely didn't expect it to become my favourite book of the year so far! I loved the characters, I loved the story, I loved the writing. It caught me by surprise and I will recommend it to everyone.

Bookshop Girl by Chloe Coles -
This book isn't published until June but I decided on a whim that despite being behind on the ARCs for the current month, I should just pick this one up instead. It was a really quick read about a girl trying to stop the local bookshop where she works from being shut down. It was fun and had a really great message but it wasn't the book for me. It featured so many of my bookish pet peeves and I wasn't really a fan of all the boy drama. It's one that I can see other people loving but it wasn't for me.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty -
I've been wanting to read this book for a while but after it became a TV show it flew to the top of my TBR. It recently became available through my libraries audiobook service so I grabbed it, and I'm glad I did. This book follows a group of Kindergarten mothers and all of their family drama but also involves a mystery death. This book was unlike anything I have read before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the way it was written and how the mystery begins to slowly unfold as we learn about the lives of these women. It doesn't sound like much from the synopsis but it is such an interesting, entertaining book.

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman -
Following it's release in the UK at the beginning of April, everyone has been raving about this book. I have seen so many rave reviews that I expected to love it too. However, this is another book that wasn't for me. Starfish is about a Japanese-American girl who has grown up not being exposed to her Japanese heritage, with a mother who treats her pretty terribly. We follow her as she tries to figure out what she wants to do with her life after finishing high school. There were so many aspects of this book that I really enjoyed - the discussions regarding race, culture and beauty, the anxiety rep, some insight into the Japanese culture - but also aspects that I didn't enjoy. The plot was kind of dull despite all of the things going on in Kiko's life and I just felt underwhelmed.

Bought:

The Truth And Lies Of Ella Black by Emily Barr - I'm going to YALC (!!!) this year and Emily Barr has been announced as one of the authors attending. I've been wanting to read her books so this seemed like a good excuse to pick one up.

Super Awkward by Beth Garrod - Beth Garrod is another author announced for YALC so when I saw her book on offer I decided to pick it up to add to my YALC TBR. It sounds like a really fun, laugh-out-loud read.

Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli - I read this in February as an ebook but again decided to pick this one up when I saw it on offer. I'm slightly disappointed that it's the movie tie-in but I suppose it's still the same on the inside.

Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy by various authors - This was a completely random purchase as I haven't even finished the Mortal Instruments series yet. I saw it and something just made me add it to my basket, I don't know why.

I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman - I read this initially as an eARC but with it being my favourite book of the year so far I had to pick up a physical copy. Gayle Forman is another author announced for YALC so I also needed a physical copy to get signed.

That was a bit of a lengthy wrap up and haul for April! I would say that was a pretty good reading month, especially with another rare 5 star read thrown in.

Did you read any great books in April?

Wrap Up & Haul | February 2018

Oh February, what a month you have been! February has been a really hard month for me in my personal life but somehow I still managed to keep reading. Despite the obvious lack of books featured in the image below, I actually managed to read 7 books in February! That's even more than January so I'm really happy with that, even though most of them were ebooks and audiobooks and my goal for 2018 is to reduce my physical TBR. There's always next month for that though, right?

City Of Ashes by Cassandra Clare -
I finally continued The Mortal Instruments series! I read the first book back in 2016 and then, for whatever reason, never picked up the second book. I'm definitely glad I finally continued with the series, after rereading the first book last month, as I really enjoyed this second instalment. There were a few aspects of the story I didn't enjoy, like the annoying love triangle, which meant I didn't like the second book as much as the first. Hopefully the aspects of the plot I didn't love will not be as much of a focus as the series continues.

The Last Laugh by Tracy Bloom -
Tracy Bloom is an author who has been a bit hit or miss for me in the past, having really enjoyed one of her books and really not enjoying another. This is her most recent release and very different to the other books of hers I have read. This book follows a woman who finds out she has terminal cancer on the same day she discovers her husband is having an affair. However, rather than face up to these things, she decides to throw a party. It was quite a strange plot, not something I have ever read before. Generally, it was nothing special, with pretty average characters, but enjoyable enough.

Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll -
I picked this book from my library's audiobook selection, as it was one I had previously been interested in, and I must admit I'm glad I didn't spend my money on it. I really wanted to enjoy this book, especially since it is compared to Gillian Flynn's works, but sadly did not. This book is mystery/thriller about a woman who spent much of her adult life trying to reinvent herself following a traumatic event as a teenager. I found this pretty boring and very predictable. It definitely did not live up to the Gillian Flynn comparisons, in my opinion.

They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera -
This book has such an interesting premise: two boys receive a phone call from informing them that they are going to die today. This instantly made me want to read this book and I'm glad I did. I found the idea of knowing the day you will die really interesting and I think the whole 'living your last day as best you can' concept was done very well. The only thing I didn't love about this book was the relationship. I always have a hard time with relationships that develop over one day and this one was, sadly, not the exception.

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda -
I'll be completely honest here, I had no intention of reading this book until I saw the trailer for the movie and then decided to give it a go in order to go and see the movie. Whatever my reasoning behind it, I'm so glad I read this book. It was completely adorable. It follows a boy who has an online email relationship with an anonymous boy in his school, but has yet to come out to his family or friends. However, his emails are discovered by a classmate who threatens to make them public. I loved Simon and his relationship with Blue, especially what we got to see through their emails that were included in the book. I had a couple of issues with some of the other characters, but overall I really enjoyed this story and the ridiculously adorable relationship.

The Initiation by Chris Babu -
I had heard nothing about this book but as soon as I read the synopsis on Netgalley I was so intrigued. This is a YA dystopian about a young boy who enters a dangerous test within the abandoned subway tunnels of what was previously Manhattan. I enjoyed this book for the most part. I really enjoyed reading about the Initiation itself but there were other aspects of the book, particularly the main character, that I didn't enjoy.

Weightless by Sarah Bannan -
This is a book I picked completely at random from the selection of audiobooks available through my library. I had never heard of it before but decided to give it a go. It's about a new girl who had moved to a small town in Alabama and shakes things up at her new school. It is essentially a story of bullying and how teens treat each other. I really enjoyed the way this book was written, it was told from the perspective of 'we', yet we never find out who 'we' are, and the reader is made to feel like they are involved in the story. This makes the overall message seem even more poignant. It was a good, powerful read, but nothing that blew me away.
Rating: 3/5

As well as managing to read 7 books in February, I'm also super proud of the fact I didn't buy a single physical book! I am trying to reduce my book buying again this year by only allowing myself to buy any physical books after reading 5 books. Despite reaching that second lot of 5 books, I didn't buy any! I did, however, take advantage of the Kindle Valentine's deals and treated myself to three ebooks.

Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines - I'm really wanting to read more New Adult books this year and Abbi Glines is an author that is always recommended.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne - Everyone I know that has read this book has absolutely loves it! It gets raved about constantly, I want to see what the fuss is about.

Instructions For A Second-Hand Heart by Tamsyn Murray - This was one of my most anticipated releases of 2016 but I never picked it up. I'm excited to get to this one!

I didn't have the best reading month in February in terms of ratings but I did read a good amount for me and even picked up some books I had never heard of. Here's hoping March will be an even better reading month.

What did you read in February? Any new favourite books?

Sophie :)
